There is, however, a large difference in the education, skillset, job duties and patients of an athletic trainer and a personal trainer. The NATA Code of Ethics states the principles of ethical behavior that should be followed in the practice of athletic training.Īthletic trainers are sometimes confused with personal trainers. As a part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Who are athletic trainers?Īthletic trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education, training and the state's statutes, rules and regulations. Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as an allied health care profession. The corporate headquarters for ATC is located in Redwood City, California, with a satellite office in Arlington, Virginia. Funding for ATC projects is obtained from government agencies and from the private sector in the form of tax-deductible contributions. Project work is conducted by a wide range of highly qualified consulting professionals, thus incorporating the experience of many individuals from academia, research, and professional practice who would not be available from any single organization. Project management and administration are carried out by a full-time Executive Director and support staff. The Applied Technology Council (ATC) is a nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation established in 1973 through the efforts of the Structural Engineers Association of California. ATC is guided by a Board of Directors consisting of representatives appointed by the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations, the Structural Engineers Association of California, the Structural Engineers Association of New York, and At-Large representatives concerned with the practice of structural engineering.
